What’s the goal?

As the new school year starts, think about your goals. Think about what you want to and will accomplish. Write out your plans and how you will achieve them. Seek out resources and take action so you are working towards them.

Summer Break

While school is out, take this time to work on preparing for senior year. Look into volunteering with your local hospital, fire department, church, business establishment and make connections. Update or create a resume that describes all of your skills and hard work while being in high school. Your resume needs to reflect what you have achieved and accomplished. Looking at your resume may also give you an idea of what you want to study in college.

If you are indecisive, that is fine because this is the time for you to look at different majors and research the career you find interest in. Make the most of summer break by keeping yourself occupied with a checklist to prepare for a challenging but rewarding year. Take your breaks but also try to achieve tasks for the day.

What Should I Be Doing in June?

In June, this is the time to contact those you are interested in writing you a letter of recommendation. This is also the time to schedule college tours/visits. It is important to seek a personal tour of the school and see what the school has to offer. You want to ask all the questions you can so I heavily advise bringing a notebook to with questions. Some questions you can ask are ….

  1. What is the school’s population?

  2. What is the campus like during semester?

  3. Are there clubs and organizations for freshmen to join?

  4. How accessible are the professors and/or staff?

  5. What are the dorms like? Can I have a tour inside of the dorms?

Weekly Encouragement

You are doing amazing! Keep going, do not give up on yourself. You have come this far, do not stop. Keep telling yourself that you are close to the finish line. Do not compare yourself to others and keep working on what you have in mind. Lay your plans out and achieve them one by one.
